Electrical upgrades are complicated, time-consuming, and expensive. But how else are you going to install all the charging stations you need to meet the growing demand? Many companies offer hardware-based solutions that can divide electrical capacity across numerous charging stations. But not Noodoe. We have something better, more flexible, and futureproof because it can evolve with the times and charging needs. Activate the Noodoe EV OS Load Management (available through the Noodoe’s Add-on Library), and experience a smooth, software-based answer to power management.
Noodoe’s management platform, Noodoe EV OS, can seamlessly integrate a wide range of add-on solutions. Customized additions can be made to any Noodoe EV OS subscription and gives the host access to a broad range of powerful, flexible solutions that optimize EV charger management. Noodoe’s Load Management optimizes energy usage through the smart allocation of power based on the state of charge of each connected vehicle.
Enabling Load Management is easy! And it works autonomously!
Destination businesses like hotels, restaurants, rest stop shops, and cafes have begun to offer electric vehicle charging. In recent years, many have been experiencing a growth in demand as more and more customers are driving an electric vehicle (EV). Having a charging station available at such businesses instantly puts them on the map for EV-driving customers. Having more charging stations available is vital to attracting more customers and offering a great customer experience.
The power panel capacity sets the number of charging stations. It varies based on the location and the power grid capacity. For instance, Alan’s hotel has an electrical power of 160A, which allows him to install four 32A charging stations. Only four because a 32A charging station needs 40A of power allocated. So, it has a 20% safety buffer.
If Alan wanted to add more charging stations, he would need to contact his electric utility company for an upgrade. It can take months and a whole lot of money. However, Alan can easily offer more than four charging stations using Noodoe’s Load Management. And doesn’t have to go through all the hassle of upgrading his power panel capacity. Sounds easy!
Let’s take a look at Alan’s hotel further. Alan contacted Noodoe and added two more charging stations. Now he has six charging stations on-site, and all six are operational without exceeding the 160A limit. It is possible through smart power allocation of Noodoe chargers through the Load Management feature.
When the first EV comes in, it charges with the full power of 32A. As additional cars connect, the second, third, and fourth begin to charge at full power of 32A. At this point, the system is drawing all available power for charging EVs.
When the fifth car arrives, the Load Management starts to kick in, and all EVs can charge at the same time. The app recalculates the output for each EV and adjusts the power to 26A for each one. This way power usage stays within the limit of the electric panel. Noodoe EV OS smart management transfers the instructions to the EV chargers. Simultaneously, it continues to monitor the consumption rate of each charger. This process ensures compliance and makes any necessary adjustments in real-time. Every EV charges at the optimal level while the total output stays under the safety limit of 160A.
These steps repeat when the sixth EV connects to charge, and six EVs are charging at the same time. The output to each EV will be calculated again and dropped to 22A. The Load Management continues monitoring the consumption and adjusts the output accordingly as more energy becomes available when other chargers complete energy transfer.
The most exciting part is when Load Management detects that an EV is fully charged and no longer requires power. For example, when the first EV completes charging, the energy output will be increased from 22A to 26A across the remaining five charging vehicles.
Setting up simple. Get in touch with Noodoe with your request and relevant information on charging station ID/ power panel capacity, then our engineers will do the setup. Simple!
